Trusted Tree Surgeons for Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire & East Renfrewshire

Qualified, fully insured arborists who leave your garden tidier than we found it.

Rowanbank Tree Surgery is a family-run team based on the Southside of Glasgow. For more than fifteen years we have looked after trees in back gardens, school grounds, housing association land and commercial sites across the city, from Shawlands and Pollokshields to Bearsden, Milngavie and Newton Mearns.

Every job starts with a free site visit. One of our arborists will look at the tree, check with the council for Tree Preservation Orders or conservation area restrictions, and give you a clear written quote with no hidden extras. All work is carried out to British Standard BS 3998, and every member of the team holds the relevant City & Guilds NPTC chainsaw and tree-climbing certificates.

Whether you need one overgrown conifer reduced, a storm-damaged sycamore made safe, or a whole plot cleared before building work starts, we take care of it from start to finish, including taking away all the wood and green waste.

Worried about a tree? Get in touch and we'll arrange a free site visit.

OUR TREE SURGERY SERVICES

From routine pruning to complex dismantles over roofs, greenhouses and power lines, we have the kit and the experience to do the job safely.

TREE FELLING & SECTIONAL DISMANTLING

When a tree is dead, diseased or simply too big for its space, we remove it safely. In tight Glasgow back gardens we climb the tree and take it down in sections, lowering each piece on ropes so fences, roofs and borders stay untouched. Ash trees showing signs of ash dieback are assessed and removed before they become a danger.

CROWN REDUCTION, THINNING & PRUNING

Let more light into your garden and cut the wind load on large trees before the winter storms arrive. We reduce and thin crowns carefully, cutting back to healthy growth points so the tree recovers well and keeps its natural shape. We never "top" trees.

STUMP GRINDING & ROOT REMOVAL

Old stumps attract fungus, trip people up and get in the way of new lawns and patios. Our compact grinder fits through a standard garden gate and grinds stumps well below ground level, leaving the area ready for turf, planting or paving.

Emergency tree work after storm damage in Glasgow

HEDGE CUTTING & EMERGENCY STORM WORK

We trim and reduce overgrown leylandii, laurel and beech hedges all year round. When high winds bring a tree down across a driveway, road or roof, our emergency team responds quickly to make the area safe and clear the debris.

Tree Surgery Questions from Glasgow Homeowners

Straight answers before you book

Sometimes. If a tree is covered by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO), you need consent from the council before any work is done. If your property is in a conservation area, you normally have to give the council six weeks' notice before felling or pruning.

We check this for you with Glasgow City Council, or the relevant neighbouring council, before we quote, and we can help with the application if one is needed.

It depends on the size and condition of the tree, how easy it is to reach, what's underneath it and how much waste there is to remove. A light prune or hedge trim might take a morning, while taking down a large tree over a roof can need a full team for a day or more.

That's why we always visit first. You'll get a fixed written price, so the figure on the quote is the figure you pay.

Most work can be done at any time of year. Many broadleaf trees are best pruned in late autumn and winter, when they're dormant and the leaves are off, so it's easier to see the structure of the tree. Some species, such as birch and maple, bleed sap in late winter and spring, so we time their pruning around that. Dangerous trees are dealt with straight away, whatever the season.

Wild birds, their eggs and active nests are protected by law. The main nesting season runs from around March to August. We check every tree before we start, and if we find an active nest we'll hold off on that part of the job until the birds have fledged.

Yes. Branches are chipped on site and all waste is taken away to be recycled. If you'd like to keep the logs for a stove or wildlife pile, just tell us and we'll cut and stack them for you. We rake and blow the area clean before we leave.

We work across the whole of Glasgow, including the Southside, West End, East End and city centre, plus Bearsden, Milngavie, Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch, Giffnock, Clarkston, Newton Mearns, Paisley, Renfrew, Rutherglen, Cambuslang and East Kilbride. If you're just outside these areas, give us a call and we'll do our best to help.
